Elmer Sterken

Professor Elmer Sterken (1961) is Rector Magnificus of the University of Groningen, the Netherlands, since 2011. He has a PhD in Economics (1990) of the University of Groningen and is since 1994 Professor of Monetary Economics. His research interests are monetary policy, theory of financial intermediation and applied econometrics. The University of Groningen (founded in 1614) is a comprehensive research-oriented institution that ranks number 72 on the Shanghai ARWU ranking of international universities. In 2016 University of Groningen’s Professor Ben Feringa has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
